Barnsley Beekeepers

Welcome to the Barnsley Beekeepers Association website, the home of bee keeping in and around Barnsley, in South Yorkshire.

The Barnsley Beekeepers Association, a local branch of the Yorkshire Beekeepers Association (YBKA) and a part of the larger British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) network, welcomes you to our community.

At Barnsley BKA, we pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming atmosphere, complete with our very own educational apiary. Our mission is to equip the beekeepers of Barnsley with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to manage their bees in a safe and productive manner. Through our website, we aim to offer you an online gateway to our association, outlining our membership benefits, guiding you to local honey sources, and providing essential insights for those contemplating the art of beekeeping.

This platform is designed to serve as a comprehensive resource on our association and the practice of beekeeping at large. The craft of beekeeping has attracted a growing interest recently, and you could very well be on your way to joining this thriving community. With the right guidance, embarking on your beekeeping journey and producing your very own honey can become a reality.

We encourage you to explore our site to deepen your understanding of honey bees and beekeeping. Should you have any questions, or if you're eager to gain hands-on experience with bees before starting on your own, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to assist and support you in any way we can.

Imported Bees

As an affiliate of both the British Beekeepers Association and Yorkshire Beekeepers Association, Barnsley Beekeepers Association will discourage the importation of both honey bee queens and colonies from outside the UK by educating its members on the merits of raising sustainable, local stock.

Association Apiary

We are lucky enough to have an association teaching apiary at Wentworth Castle Gardens. From here we are able to provide support and training for our members.
